2018 Carménère, Walla Walla Valley
We work with all the traditional Bordeaux varietals, including Carménère, the “long lost grape of Bordeaux.” Grown in the southern hills of Summit View Vineyard and the volcanic-laced silt loams of Minnick Hills Vineyard, two of the most intriguing Carménère sites in the Walla Walla Valley. It is always delightful for blending, but as the years have gone by, we have become more and more enchanted with it as a remarkable stand-alone wine.
This wine presents a medium purple color with fuchsia hues. Aromas of blueberries and Rainier cherries are accented by white pepper and green peppercorn notes. We enjoy this varietal for its vibrant blueberry and raspberry flavors and distinct peppercorn character. It is lifted and bright, with soft tannins, sweet fruit, and a lingering savory finish. Carménère is best enjoyed in its youth, anywhere from release to five years from vintage date.
