2015 Cabernet Sauvignon, Klipsun Vineyard, Red Mountain

Planted in 1983, Klipsun Vineyard is one of the oldest vineyards on Red Mountain, the smallest AVA in Washington State. Since 1991, we have produced a single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from the same block, on the windward side of the vineyard overlooking the Yakima River. We find it to be one of the most distinctive sites we have worked with in three decades of winemaking.

After careful vinification in small, open top fermenters, the wine was aged for 22 months in Vicard French oak barrels. The wine has dark red color and aromas of ripe black cherries, loganberry, mint and tobacco. It is dense on the palate, showing dusty earth and a polished tannin structure combined with concentrated black fruits. The finish is complex, with fine tannins. This wine will improve significantly with cellaring over the first five years and will hold nicely and continue to develop for eight to twelve years from vintage date.
